Until now, the notion of a designer directing has been off-piste as that of a director designing, which is odd when you think about it because fashion and film share so much.
It’s so much more than a face-off between style and substance. They both trade in the creation of illusions, the manipulation of dreams. They both posess the power to fetishise form, gender, sexuality as a means of building up characters.
